'73 thoughts

During the Dictatorship, my father was detained by the military and my mom, who was in a subversive group, the MIR, got shot by army men. Even though, they have always talked bad about Salvador Allende's government. Despite the fact they suffered as much or worse than a lot of Chileans back in those days, they don't idealize the socialist time before that. So, what do I think about this day? According to my family, socialism was a really shitty time. Allende was a good man, but surrounded by useless and ignorant so-called polititians. There were a lot of good intentions, but poorly executed.

I don't defend what happened in '73 and the following 17 years, but can't imagine a Chile without those events. Hopefully time will erase the wounds in our people's souls. Maybe one day the beautiful Allende's last speech become truth, and we'll all walk free in the great avenues of our lives.
